What is Android OS? | Information & History of Android

Android is a Linux-based operating system designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers.

Android Inc. was founded by,

• Andy Rubin (co-founder of Danger)
• Rich Miner (co-founder of Wildfire Communications, Inc.)
• Nick Sears (once VP at T-Mobile)
• Chris White (headed UI development at WebTV)
  
  in Palo alto, California, United states in October 2003.

Google acquired Android on august 17 ,2005 and the first Android-powered phone called "HTC Dream" was sold in 22 October, 2008.

Android is Open Source and Google releases the code under the Apache License. This open source code and permissive licensing allows the software to be freely modified and distributed by device manufacturers, wireless carriers and enthusiast developers.

Additionally, Android has a large community of developers writing applications (Sometime called "apps") that extend the functionality of devices, written primarily in a customized version of the Java programming language.

Note : In October 2012, there were approximately 700,000 apps available for Android, and the estimated number of applications downloaded from Google Play, Android's primary app store, Today it was more than 25 billion.

At Google, the team led by Rubin developed a mobile device platform powered by the Linux kernel and Android Mobile OS was developed.

Android's user interface is based on direct manipulation, means Just using Touch Inputs that loosely correspond to real-world actions, like swiping, tapping, pinching and reverse pinching to manipulate on-screen objects.

Device's Internal hardware such as Accelerometers, Gyroscopes and Proximity Sensors are used by some applications to respond to additional user actions,

~~> E.g. For Adjusting the screen from Portrait to Landscape depending on how the device is oriented, or allowing the user to steer a vehicle in a racing game by rotating the device, simulating control of a steering wheel.

Android has a growing selection of third party applications, which can be acquired by users either through an app store such as Google Play like Windows Phone Marketplace or Apple AppStore, or by downloading and installing the application's APK file from a third-party site.

The Play Store application allows users to browse, download and update apps published by Google and third-party developers, and is pre-installed on devices that comply with Google's compatibility requirements.

Android is developed in private by Google until the latest changes and updates are ready to be released, at which point the source code is made available publicly. This source code will only run without modification on select devices, usually the Google Nexus series of devices.

Previous versions of Android consists of a kernel based on Linux kernel version 2.6 and, from Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich onwards, version 3.x, with middleware, Libraries and APIs written in C, and application software running on an application framework which includes Java-compatible libraries based on Apache Harmony. Android uses the Dalvik Virtual Machine (DVM) with Just-In-Time(JIT) compilation to run Dalvik 'dex-code' (Dalvik Executable), which is usually translated from Java bytecode.

What is Overclocking of CPU? | Overclocking Basics

 
Overclocking** is the process of making a computer or component operate faster than the clock frequency specified by the manufacturer by modifying system parameters.

In Simple words....Overclocking is the process of Boosting amount of GHz (Speed) of the Processor manually by changing the default configuration of clock rate in BIOS.

For example, say you have a "2 GHz" processor, overclocking this processor is increasing this speed to make it faster. If you did a "300 MHz" overclock on this, your processor will have a need speed of "2.3 GHz".

Many motherboards are sold, and advertised, with extensive facilities for overclocking implemented in hardware and controlled by BIOS settings.

Advantages :~

• U can, in many cases, purchase a lower performance, cheaper component (i.e. CPU or GPU) and overclock it to the clock rate of a more expensive component.
• Higher performance in Games, Encoding, Video editing applications etc.
• In some systems, small overclocking of a component can increase full performance of another components to a greater percentage than the limiting hardware is overclocked.
  For Ex. Many motherboards with "AMD Athlon 64" processors limit the clock rate of four units of RAM to 333 MHz. However, the memory performance is computed by dividing the processor clock rate (which is a base number times a CPU multiplier, for instance 1.8 GHz is most likely 9×200 MHz) by a fixed integer such that, at a stock clock rate, the RAM would run at a clock rate near 333 MHz. Manipulating elements of how the processor clock rate is set (usually lowering the multiplier), it is often possible to overclock the processor a small amount, around 100–200 MHz (less than 10%), and gain a RAM clock rate of 400 MHz (20% increase in RAM speed, though in only Memory performance).

Disadvantages:~

•  Lifespan of Processor components can be reduced by increased Voltages and Heat.

• Warranties may be voided by overclocking.

• Because of more power consumption, heat increases the internal air temperature within the system case, which may affect other components.

• Hardware Failure rate is increased due to changes in the System default Configurations

• Eg. File Copy Errors or BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) Errors.

• Requires a Heavy Duty Cooling Systems. Eg. Liquid Coolers or In some cases of Extreme Overclocking "Liquid Nitrogen" or "Helium" is used.

Some Important Notes :~

** Overclocking decreases the life expectancy of any component; however, hardware generally lasts a long time. Your overclocked components would be obsolete by the time they burned out,and most of you would've replaced it before that time comes.

** Only some of the Processor Families Supports Overclocking feature.

** Some latest Processor families have Automatic Overclocking feature Eg. TurboBoost Technology Inspired by Intel.

** We doesn't recommend to do Overclocking, it can damage ur hardware component or can makes it Permanently disabled.

Virus:
              A program that replicates itself across a network, or the Internet as a whole. The virus payload may be destructive, like deleting files, or it could simply try to overwhelm a network by copying itself.

Worm:
              A virus that replicates itself without human intervention. If the victim has to open an e-mail attachment to get infected, it's a virus. But if it scans for new victims and attacks by itself, it's a worm.

Trojan horse:
                         A program that doesn't necessarily replicate itself, but like the legendary wooden horse is much more than it appears. A Trojan horse program might look like a game, but instead it steals your personal information and sends it to a criminal.

Password sniffer:
                               A file that seeks out passwords on your computer, then sends them to a hacker. A keylogger can also grab anything typed on the keyboard.

Blended threat:
                           A program that combines the characteristics of viruses, worms and Trojan horses. A blended threat, like the recent Nimda outbreak, is a recent phenomenon.

Exploit:
               A program that takes advantage of a security hole in a computer program, like Microsoft Windows or AOL Instant Messenger.

Spyware:
                 A general term for a program that surreptitiously monitors your actions. While they are sometimes sinister, like a remote control program used by a hacker, software companies have been known to use spyware to gather data about customers. The practice is generally frowned
upon.

Virus signature:
                             The ``fingerprints'' of a virus, which antivirus programs use to identify and isolate viruses. Users should regularly update their antivirus programs online to download the latest virus signatures, so they're protected against new viruses.

Firewall:
                  Software that monitors incoming and outgoing Internet traffic to your computer and checks for suspicious patterns. A firewall may alert you to spyware or a Trojan horse installed on your computer.
